ROZANNA
WEINBERGER
- VIOLIST/VIOLINIST/COMPOSER
Rozanna
Weinberger has steadily forged new ground, attracting audiences
where most violists have never gone. Upcoming performances
include the world premiere of a new work for viola and chorus by
Clare Shore at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston this June.
Recent performances include a solo appearance at the
Worldwide Plaza in New York, accompanied by the Indie band
SEER, and a Swing Quartet Performance for Mayor Bloomberg. In
addition to recording the solo viola part by Christopher Mangum
for the King Tut Exhibition, which is currently touring
the world, the artist gave a special performance alongside the
exhibition at the Field Museum in Chicago. She has
performed original music on the runway for Fashion Week
and was a guest panelist at Peabody Conservatory of
Johns Hopkins University. Whether performing and producing
the music videos Chromatic Fantasy and Sweet Thunder, premiering
a Concerto by Tania Leon, performing at Jazz Au Bar with Kim
Garfunkel or improvising with Nigel Kennedy, this unique violist
of the 21st century, wins high acclaim:
The San Francisco Examiner “...magisterial...”
American Record Guide “...breathtaking virtuosity...”
Village Voice “heart-touching sincerity...unabashedly romantic…
soulful...”
Weinberger's music and playing has been featured in a world
peace exhibition at the United Nations and Capital Hill,
in the movie, Dancing With Kendra and the Knitting
Factory for Marianne Pearl. Her most recent incarnation,
Sweet Thunder, merges classical and popular
culture seamlessly, redefining the role of the virtuoso. Her
music videos have been seen throughout North and South America
on the Classic Arts Showcase, the TRIO Network,
the Park City Film Music Festival, Rhode Island
and Columbus International Film Festivals, where
Chromatic Fantasy was a prize-winner. Rozanna has been voted
'Featured Artist of the Month' on a popular music website
Reward Talent, virtually unheard of for a violist.
Ms. Weinberger has performed extensively worldwide as soloist
and chamber musician in Sweden, Israel, Canada, South Africa,
Baltimore, Cleveland, Toronto, San Francisco, Chicago, and Weill
Recital Hall. In addition, her performance at the
International Viola Congress was described as “ground
breaking.” Weinberger performed for Prince Hironomia of Japan
and was selected to as an Artistic Ambassador by the USIA. She
has recorded for North Pacific, Mode and Albany Records and
received her Bachelors degree from Peabody Conservatory of John
Hopkins U. and Masters from The Juilliard School. Rozanna has
written several articles for Strings Magazine, has given
numerous Master classes and a workshop at the United Nations and
has served as a music consultant for both New York Pops and Head
Start Education Programs.
